The Company was established in the Midlands in 1989 when Mike and Sue, having three young daughters, found a demand for good quality school uniform to be made available at a reasonable cost. Thus ‘School Days’ was born.
Starting out from selling at local schools only, this then developed to also selling direct from their home, and then eventually to a shop in the West Midlands.
After building a successful business in the Midlands for 7 years, Mike and Sue decided to go back to their roots in the South-East. The model of the business changed, to also include a ‘Direct-to-School’ service offering in-house embroidery. The business then evolved into ‘School Days Direct’.
In true family-business style, Mike and Sue’s daughter Samantha soon got involved as an ‘Embroidery Machine Operator’. As the business grew and grew, and after running the business direct from their home for over 12 Years, Mike, Sue, and Samantha found a need to open a local based retail outlet to offer school uniform direct to parents. Also workwear offering on-site embroidery and printing services, with a family friendly approach, to service local and nationwide businesses. In November 2006 School Days Direct opened at Bath Road, Taplow.
As the business grew, so did the staff levels who were playing an increasing part in the growth and reputation of the Company. One of the members who joined the company in 2007 was Craig. Samantha and Craig had known each other since Primary School and had remained friends. Their relationship soon blossomed, and 7 years later in 2014 they married, and in 2017 their first child was born.
With the business moving from strength to strength, and Mike and Sue planning for retirement, Samantha and Craig decided to take on the mantle, and continue the successful family-run business into future success, along with the continued support of Mike and Sue.
Today Samantha and Craig are a leading team of over 12 dedicated people, with up to 10 additional staff who are also recruited to help out during the busy periods, over the school summer holidays.
The Schoolwear industry has certainly changed since 1989 and will continue to do so. The internet will obviously play an increasingly important role in all businesses, which Samantha and Craig aim to focus on building along-side the retail store. One thing is for sure, School Days Direct will continue to strive to supply quality products at competitive prices with a family-friendly approach.
Mike, Sue, Samantha, Craig and all the team at School Days Direct would like to thank all of their dedicated customers, and look forward to serving you for many years to come. Whether you have been a School Days Direct customer for many years or a new customer, we would like to thank you very much for your support.
